'Film titles made their appearance in the earliest silent films'
I was interested to find this out, as I didn't think about where they began, but it makes sense that this is where they came from. Silent films may struggle to portray things to an audience, but a title sequence helps to do so.
'Movie producers invested considerable sums in film production and sometimes resorted to fixing a dog of a film by rewriting the inter-titles.'
I was interested in this, as I thought that although title sequences are important, I didn't think much money would be spent on them, compared to the film. I also didn't realise that a title sequence can impact on the film so much.
'The incorporation of audio into movies — making them “talkies” — didn’t revolutionize how film titles were handled'
I thought that a title sequence would be completely changed with the addition of sound, as it can enhance the mood of the film, and the actions taking place.
'It could be argued that typography lost importance in this era of title design. The imagery behind the credits received a lot more attention.'
I think this definitely makes sense, as images are generally more interesting to look at than text. You can connote so much from an image, possibly much more than text.
'the opening moments can make a deeply satisfying contribution to any film.'
This line is very true, as a title sequence can set up many things that you will expect to see in a film e.g. genre, mood, pace, quality of film, the film's narrative, characters, setting.

Continuity Piece
What did you find difficult about this task?
When doing this task, I found it difficult to cut some of the clips together, to make them flow properly. It was very time consuming getting them exactly right.
What new skills have you aquired/developed?
I have improved my skills of editing several clips together. I have learnt the skills of filming, and how you must keep to the 180 degree rule, so that the audience don't get confused.
What worked well?
When creating our piece, the filming went well. We filmed the scene multiple times, each time from a different angle. This allowed the editing to be easier.
What could you or your team have done better?
When making the piece, we could have found a room that was quieter, so that the speech could heard better. Also, we could have made the conversation more interesting.
